EXIT FESTIVAL - 2010

PETROVARADIN FORTRESS, NOVI SAD, SERBIA

8th - 11th july, 2010

As I sit here, listening to Faith No More’s album

“Introduce Yourself” play from my iTunes I think back to this

year’s Exit Music Festival and realise that even though I heard

quite a few complaints from various people about how this

year the festival was “lacking a certain something” and that it

“isn’t what it used to be” I personally feel it was one of the

better festivals.

It may have been more dynamic and may have offered a wider and more eclectic taste in musical performances (from the likes of Mika and Missy Elliot to Suicidal Tendencies and the eccentric yet vocally very powerful Mike Patton and Faith No More) but it is this variety and choice (not to mention the 20+ stages and over 600 performers that make the Exit Festival what it is.

Rock AM Ring is a purely rock and metal festival.  Sonar is a festival of electronic music and festivals like these are very specific and cater to a characteristic crowd.  The Exit Festival attempts (and I feel, succeeds) to bring the goths, the ravers, the headbangers, the pop fanatics, the electronica cravers and even movie goers together in one place, over four days and have a great time listening to a wide range of different genres.

As a volunteer photographer at Exit 2010, I was exposed to probably more different musical tastes and exciting performances than the average festival goer (my sister for one, hardly budged from the Explosive stage, while a work colleague made the Dance Arena her temporary home) and as a result I can assertively say that another year came and went and another Exit Festival brought tens of thousands of not only local and regional but also international festival lovers/goers to the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad this summer.

I hope my photos will show you exactly what I mean!
